Description Marii's game has two sets of food items:

-The 100x100 pixel ingredients that heal very little but fill her up quickly. Some even have negative effects such as just eating spice or cooking oil.
-The 200x200 pixel meals that can have special effects, heals a lot, and takes up only so much more room in her stomach.

Marii won't be able to chow down to regain infinite health. She has to digest the food before she can heal again. She can also only carry so much of each ingredient and only a small number of meals. This is to avoid becoming overpowered just because of 999 apples, a problem I had in Breath of the Wild. Nothing was a challenge because no well-deserved hit would kill me. I'm just as good at the game as when I started, but I still completed everything (except for korok seeds because they get pointless).

PLEASE criticize this. I don't need a hundred "GOOD JOB DON'T TRY AND IMPROVE" comments. I want the food to look as good as it can in this style. You can even criticize the style! Go ahead!

The 15 "meals" are as follows:

2 Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches (Grape and Strawberry)
Sushi (No particular roll in mind)
Bean Bun
Noodles (Again, nothing particular in mind)
Skull Pop
S'mores
"Boop" Lollipop
Honey Rolls
Jelly Melon
Paella
Chicken Pilau
Gumbo
Chili
Borsh

Please comment on which ones you think need improvement, ingredients included. I felt as if the ingredients were much more obvious. The bag with the Japanese words on it is rice.

I have some doubts about the system digest
i guess some foods like the skull pop and the "Boop" lollipop will be digested faster than other like the Sandwiches or the fruits

and because are made of sugar, if you full your stomach with
that will be a increase of speed of move or a increase of damage for 1 or 2 minutes,
but after that you will can't eat again after a while and you will be slow for a minute

Yeah, stuff like that. I just found it strange that there are no repercussions for healing when Zelda is so easy anyways.

I'd suggest making the little notch(?) in the 'G' of the grape jam more inward/clearer. I read it as 'Crape' at first sight.

Is the 100x100 black square on the top right meant to be seaweed? If it is, I think dividing it into strips would make it clearer and making them slightly wavy (sort of like Tao Kei Noi seaweed snacks). 

I think the sushi rolls could have better placement. It looks a bit empty compared to the rest, even though the chopsticks are there. Maybe you could cluster the sushi in the middle in a square/rectangular arrangement facing up, or have 2 rows of sushi. If not, you could add some soy sauce and wasabi as well. 

I'm not too sure why, but the perspective of the honey rolls look off. I really don't know why. Maybe you could move the rolls up higher on the plate?

No problem, and fair enough. Nice job with the sprites though! Out of curiosity: your dA says you're a student. Are you taking a course in game design or something similar?

I don't really have anything to say about the food items themselves but I do have a few things to say about the mechanic itself. The timing system is actually a cool idea, but it could get pretty frustrating if all foods take the same time to digest, as it would probably render some items completely worthless. Maybe when Marii is mostly full, she can eat less heavy items to regain a little health?

The idea is to make the player plan things out and get better at playing the game. I don't want to give the player cheap deaths or allow them cheap victories. I think the idea of stuffing the last bit of space in Mariis stomach would come from a player who was way in over their head and probably deserves to die.

If they were that bad at playing, then the last few bars of health probably wouldn't help them much. I personally like the feeling of being way over my head and barely scraping by with a victory, as it feels really satisfying, but that's kind of just my playstyle, and I don't really know what you're going for. Clearly there would already be a little bit of strategy involved, as filling Marii up again would extend the amount of time before she could eat again for only a minimal amount of health. In general, I also don't believe games should actively try and punish players for a viable strategy. But I guess if you really want to punish players for exploring or trying to play your game, then you can do that.

I'm not saying they CAN'T do that, but I'm not going to sit here and make it something to rely on either. Also, you act as if my game is going to be Dark Souls. Not every screen of the game is an intense obstacle that will choke the player's hearts away, only battles that are meant to be difficult are really impacted by what food you bring to the table. My problem with Breath of the Wild is that when you got enough hearts to not be one-shot, a large amount of food could win any battle you entered.

Aha. Yeah, I guess I was thinking it was going to be a hard-ish game. You have a point, though. That does cheapen victories to an extent, making them less satisfying and less about skill.

I actually really love your idea for the food mechanics, and the food items themselves look very appealing and bubbly. (Cutesy & Cartoonish) I could tell you a good way to improve on the idea could be making an animation of Marii eating certain special foods...Though I'm not sure what examples I have pertaining to this idea. I really like this though! (Sorry my feedback is more of a praise than an actual critisism...)
