Who knows? German logistics were so messed up by 1943 that you could find German soldiers wearing uniforms they took off their friends' dead bodies.

The Turkestan Legion was composed of Turkic POWs who had once been conscripted by the USSR as suicide soldiers. When the Nazis found that they were short on "purely Aryan" soldiers, they offered the Turkic POWs freedom if they would defect. Turkic soldiers jumped at the call, hoping to get revenge upon Russia for all the oppression and ethnic identity theft they'd had gone through. Sadly, when Germany lost the war, most of the Turkic soldiers were deported back to Russia and sentenced to decades of hard labor in gulags. The Soviets whitewashed the books, claiming that the "repatriated traitors" were ethnic Russians who had dabbled in anti-communism. They would never admit to "admitting foreign ethnic groups" into the Red Army. It just wouldn't jive with their propaganda posters to have even one tan-skinned non-Russian person alongside "the Heroes of the Motherland."

For this picture though, I hope the girl escapes the Gulag fate and settles in America.

I always found it funny that the Germans used Italian camo patterns in their uniforms. A good indicator to let people know what front they served in. I also noticed blue borders on the shoulder straps. Nice detail there.
