Description
I feel so bad for the people of Makai. Their home was practically demolished four times in a row. ;-;But, yeah. Regardless, this is my first entry for the PC-98 Oldworks Contest. Whether I'll make anymore or not, I cannot tell you, but here's one. .u.
Categories to list under:
Best Use of Vanilla Art Assets
Comedy
(Categories I guess this could be listed under. It's up to whether they fit these in the longrun or not though.)

Thank you for your contribution to the contest! I agree that what happened to the Makai was pretty unfortunate for the residency. It's really up to interpretation how it affected Makai as a whole, so it's always an interesting idea to explore.
I appreciate the homage to Touhou Mother as well, knowing the dialogue of that game it brought a smile to my face almost instantly. As for the Walfas side of things, it was basic, but I did like that you gave Yumeko a tilted head; that being utilized is refreshing to see.
I really think I've decided that the potential categories you mentioned do all fit and that's mainly with how you handled Yuka and Yumeko; they both had some befitting character dialogue, and especially Yumeko who felt like one of the last few sane ones in the aftermath of the incident, though noticeably jaded.
You did well, good job. οΌΎοΌΎ

Pretty much. Mystic Square is really interesting as far as story goes for that reason.
I love Touhou Mother, and I know you do as well, so I figured I'd make a reference to it in some way. And yeh, my stuff is admittedly pretty basic. I did, however, try to create this only using Vanilla props and not really adding any after-effects, so that may have been part of the reason why.
Alrighty then. I tried to make the dialogue between Yuuka and Yumeko play off of their characters well, and fit the matter at hand, so it's good to hear it paid off!
Thank ya. .u.

Pretty much Yuuka's Story in a nutshell as far as I've seen. It really makes you question who the villain is here.

Considering that the "heinous scheme" that the Makai-jin were "guilty" of was nothing more than setting up a tourism industry, and the protagonists pretty much destroyed their homeland over false pretenses, I'm 100% certain that the villains of Mystic Square is the protagonists.

Wait, that's the literal reason Makai was attacked?!...Welp, now I feel bad for trying to beat that game.

If what Shinki said to Reimu is the truth, then yes.
Shinki: So, what might you be here for?
Reimu: Right! There's been way too many of the people here coming to the human world lately! It's a huge bother. Can't you do something about it!?
Shinki: Hmm.... That's because of a privately-owned travel agency arranging tours, so... Unfortunately, I have no say in the matter.
