Element Lad and Superboy arrived at the planet Xeran. They had been asked to respond to a United Planets emergency distress signal. Before leaving their ship to the planet surface, Element Lad checked their instruments. "That's weird, Superboy. There are 2 distress signals, coming from opposite ends of the Xeran. But they seem to be connected. They're alternating rhythmically."

Superboy responded, "OK, let's split up and each investigate each of the signal sources." So they flew off in different directions, not suspecting the mysteries and dangers of this new world.
