I hear that this SSJ is actually a combo of his Ultimate Power-Up & SSJ1. To me, it looks like SSJ2.

Only thing I know is he can't go Ultimate anymore and he was worried that he wouldn't even be able to go SSJ during the fight because he slacked off on his training

That's fair. I like the Kai English dub because the dialogue is manga accurate & it cuts out all the filler. I just wish they'd used either the original Japanese score & soundtrack from the original Japanese dub or the Bruce Falconer score.
