Description
I love the idea of collecting replica movie props, or even the real props themselves, but I just don't have that kind of money to actually do it. So, I improvise my own. I have a really nice looking Darth Vader costume (despite it being homemade on a small budget), which I have on a makeshift display stand ("Fit for a museum" as I call it), I have a bunch of authentic-looking animation cels, and now I have miniature replicas of the magic remotes seen in the "Fairly OddParents" special "Channel Chasers".These remotes came out of my need to test the color sandstone 3D printing material that shapeways.com offers and I thought it would be so cool to have a replica prop of something that never existed in real life. Eventually I settled on recreating the magic remotes, which turned out to be a little tricky since the design of the remotes doesn't remain consistant throughout the episode they appear in. Originally, I wanted to make them life-size, which I considered to be about 6 inches long, but I found it would be too costly to print them that big, even with all the corner cutting I did (the remotes don't have any back to them!).

Here are the 3D models. If you manage to print anything, I'd love to see it!

Thanks! I'd have to dig around for the files. No guarantees.

These remotes were modeled in the computer and then printed, via Shapeways, in color sandstone. I would be happy to print you some remotes of your own, which you could then give to your Dad, but I would first need to fix up and improve the models, since they were really just a basic test. This would take a couple days. However, even if I were to order the 3d prints this very moment, they still probably would not arrive before Oct. 13th. If you want to talk about this further, go ahead and send me a Note/private message.

Wait...are the buttons actually raised or is is just a piece of paper with the button design on them?

No, the buttons are raised and solar cels, as I call them, have depth. It's difficult to see though, from this picture. You can see the details better when you view the original 3D models: [link]
