she's stuck there with only a bottle of whiskey to keep her company. She won't be around much longer. She'll find a man who treats her right.

The picture is fine (good). Your description of her standing there with only a bottle of whiskey doesn't describe the scene. The bottle of whiskey must have been cropped out?

As in printed word art (poetry, literary, etc), questions asked, must be answered. (And note that they MUST be asked when dealing with photos).

What does the photo ask of me? Who, What, Where, How, When, Why? I'll give you an example. If she were standing there with a bottle of whiskey, then YES, she is asking me, "WHY are you standing there with a bottle of whiskey"?

Now I want to point out an important fact most photographers know, but don't know why. The prettier your model is, the less likely a man will be critical of the "scene". That is what you are creating, a scene. The scene must be as intriguing with granny standing there, as the model you will use. If I picture granny standing there, I see her looking seductive at me.

A pretty girl carries the picture. Great artists will not allow this to happen. Let your theme or story be the focal point, and the beautiful model be the icing on the cake.

Audrey Kitching MySpace (google her), she has some themes and odd photos. She is no where half as beautiful as your model here. (No I do not know her, but I pass along good info when I can).

"Ideas" are the hardest thing to find. Maybe your models have some ideas? Ask "granny" of some ideas of interesting pictures (but don't use granny, use your model).

I see an ultra fine girl getting ready to dress hot for whoever is seeing this picture. Is that enough?

I do give my critique with upmost respect to fellow photographers. Sometimes the subject (model) can be more difficult than the time is worth.

Your time and effort are appreciated.

Dang... I agree with both the Photographer and the critique.I don't know what to say now ...
But agree with the Photographer in one thing though, beautiful model is not the artist's enemy but she is extra hard raw material that can add great value to the photo/painting if you extract and put it in the right place...
Great work and criticism...

It's a fair critique, and I'm with you in most cases. Sometimes the model doesn't simply carry the scene, but rather hijacks it. In that case, so long as there aren't any distractions, the picture can revolve around the subject.

i agree that the scene is very important in a shoot, i actually pride myself on the scenes, sets and stories i create.

i can see your comments on this one image, but did you look at the 3 other images that were posted with this image? i feel like the scene is the main thing in the set.

i feel like the scene is very intriguing in this set of images.

the whiskey is visible in the other three images and yes it was in her hand, i did not take the time to write four separate descriptions.

i disagree with you premise that is not ok for a great artist to let the model carry the scene. i consider it all part of my art to bring out the best in a model both in appearance and in emotion and let it shine, often that will make the model be the story... i guess we just disagree on this one.

I do appreciate the comments and feedback.

I only critiqued on the one picture in front of me. I did not realise there were more. I guess that explains why I did not see the whiskey bottle.

I will search for the other pics now.

PS (Disagreement is good news, indifference is bad news)...

she has such a nice chest but I was inexorably drawn to her eyes. you did a wonderful job bringing out her eyes in this pic. the contrast between her hair and the shirt is very well done and adds depth to the picture

I think it's fantastic, my only critical comment would be that when you're dealing with a razor-think focal plane, you have to be very careful. Notice that you can clearly make out individual hairs on the back of her head, but you can't clearly distinguish individual eyelashes. The shot is not properly focused, the focal plane is about an inch behind where it ought to be. The eyes are always going to be the most important part of the photo, you must take special care to ensure they are sharp.

This one is the one that, for me, best depicts what I've said about the "non-studio" feeling, Mark. Sadly, I don't understand about photography as much as I'd like yet to give a name to the "filter" (Photoshop user here XD) you gave to this one, but this... grainy feeling, like a movie, is what really got up to me. Really, really loved this one.
