A recent commissioned piece for a client whose grandfather served aboard this ship during World War I. The USS Batjan was acquired from the Netherlands Steamship Company in March of 1918 and served with the US Navy transporting munitions and supplies to Europe and South America. She survived the war and was returned to her Dutch owners in June of 1919.
