Maybe Stan doesn't want Soos to see how bad of a father he was. Remember, when Stan hired Soos, he didn't ask for his name. It was probably later on when Stan asked Soos for his name, Stan was surprised to see it was his son. And still to this day didn't tell Soos.

I love how Dipper felt like he should have Bud forget about what happened to make him feel better, you have a good heart Dipper. I also love how Mabel suggested they make him feel better themselves instead, you have a good heart too Mabel, don't let any person (or unicorn) make you think otherwise.
