It's just Stan he doesn't really like and that's because... well face it, someone like Stan in real life would not be liked by everyone.
Plus he put his son in prison.

True true, Stan put Gideon in prison, but they definitely had a professional rivalry before that. Gideon's Telepathy Tent was a competitor to Stan, and Gideon had done other minor things to earn his ire such as taking his parking spot. Hell, there was a dart board in the Gleeful house with Stan's face on it, and Bud said "We've been at each other's throats...", suggesting that the rivalry was between Stan and the Gleeful family, not just Gideon.

Well first, emphasis on "professional" rivalry.
Most of the ire was from being competitors. So you can't hold that against Bud.
Secondly, the rivalry was mainly BECAUSE of Gideon. You really think Bud would give two shits about Stan if it wasn't for Gideon. Plus, it's not like Stan is innocent. He's a bit of a jerk and he steals.
So it's clear that Bud has never liked Stan, but does that make him a bad person? There's a lot of "good" people that don't like Stan. In fact, the entire town doesn't seem to like Stan.
And then there's the fact that Stan is rivals with Bud's son. Now, Bud was in SERIOUS denial of how bad Gideon was. In fact, he even joined the Society of the Blind's eye to help him cope.
And he was perfectly willing to team up with Stan when he thought their kids were dating. So he doesn't hate Stan enough to miss out on good business. In fact, the only reason he ends up backing down, is because of Gideon.
Bud never seems to care too much of Dipper and Mabel. Hell, sometimes he's disturbed by how far Gideon goes, and tries to talk him out of it.Β
So while I can't say Bud is a "hero" or anything. He surely isn't as bad as people think. In fact, he's more of just a minion too loyal and scared to do anything about it. Gideon is his son, and he wants to give him what he needs but... I bet he didn't count on having a son like Gideon.

I've always felt pretty bad for the Gleefuls; they're stuck under the thumb of their psychotic child and even when he isn't even physically there he has this terrifying power over them. Bud Gleeful, at the end of the day, seems like a guy who really needs a hug and a friend. His wife may need a bit more than that.Β

I feel sad for Bud. Besides a father's gotta make their kids happy no matter what. But I doubt he'll make Gideon considering him being a total psychopath. He deserves better than this even his wife. I mean, did you even see her look on every episode she's in?
