Overall, it doesn't seem like Bud is a bad guy. Sure he's done some unorthodox things but just like stan, he knows where to stop.

It's just that I always saw him a victim of his own child. He wants to the best for his kid and will do anything for him, but he is constantly used and abused by that nightmare of a kid.
I mean, don't you think if Bud was mean or evil, he'd just abandon Gideon? He clearly is still making money, and is free as a bird.
But he cares too much for his son.

That's so true. Bud is so nice to everyone. All bad things he does are things Gideon commits him to do. I loved that scene in the episode Gideon was announced, where he and Stan argue about their future partnership. (And he didn't even made Stan give the sad clown picture back.)
