uh like after kindergarten your in first grade then it goes on until 12th grade. so i guess in your school "year one" means first grade in our schools. over here "grade" is more commonly used.

Grades are pretty much our version of years. So in America, we have kindergarten, which is the very first year of school for children. For you guys, you have Year 1 (I'm assuming)
After kindergarten, it's 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, ect.
For you guys, it's Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4, ect.
That's what I'm assuming anyways.

You're right. Bit we do also have Kindergarten which is the first year for primary students. Then it's year 1, year 2, ect.

If that's the case, then your year system is the same as our grades.
'Cause it goes:
Kindergarten
1st Β Grade
2nd Grade
3rd Grade
and so on and so forth. When you reach highschool, however, you go by Freshman (9), Sophomore (10), Junior (11) and then Senior (12).
So if you count kindergarten, then you go 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year, then the aging system is pretty much the exact same, excluding highschool.

At first, I was confused.
How is Dipper 12 and only in 6th grade?
Then I realized that that's normal, and you'd usually be in 6th grade at 12, and that I'm a weirdo.
I went to 6th grade when I was 11, so I always happen to be the youngest in my class.
