Why is it that a lot of fanfiction consistently draws Mabel as a mermaid and Dipper as a faun centaur?

its because there's a popular au in gravity falls fandom called monster falls, where all the characters are turned into monsters. mabel is a mermaid, dipper is a deer centaur, wendy is a werewolf, etc.

As you know, Dipper in Monster Falls AU is centaur. He is half deer. Deer's position makes Dipper look like half deer, but when you look closely you'll see he isn't half deer. And front of Mabel is a fish, which in Monster Falls AU is Mabel a mermaid, fish's tail is fron of Mabel's legs, so she looks like mermaid. But like Dipper, she isn't.
