Well, he probably still became a con-man regardless and the Patched suit is to give him a hobo look for sympathy points with customers, then he forgot to get a proper tuxedo for the ceremony so he had to wear the patched one.

Wow, it's sad how believable that other timeline sounds. I love the Rick and Ford friendship even more because of the Gravity Falls easter egg in Rick and Morty.
I'm waiting for the Rick and Morty episode where we find out the Rick Morty goes on adventures with is not the Rick form his universe, and that the "evil" Morty is searching for his universes Rick because Rick abandoned the overly intelligent Morty since he didn't act as a shield and possibly that the "dumb" Rick is hiding from "evil" Morty. But I seriously digress.
