Actually, Hirsch tried to explain it on Twitter, but noone believed him since he was the one who "leaked" the picture of Mcgucket writing the journals. Imdb was the one who accidentally leaked the name before the episode was aired.

Yes, but the name came from an at-the-time unknown character, and this was a concept he came up with since people thought Tad Strange was Bill Cipher's brother (or a dream demon like him at least).

A looooong while ago, before "The Stanchurian Candidate" was even a title people knew about, someone on GF (I blame Hirsch) was doing a Bill Cipher Reddit AMA. Do not stop here, I'm not kidding. So, a long while before that, Alex Hirsch had briefly mentioned the name "Tad Strange" on Twitter (I'm not sure where it was or what it was part of) so someone asked Bill about Tad Strange, to which he replied - to the jist - "HE'S A REAL SQUARE". Bill being a triangle, this lead people to believe that the name Tad Strange was associated with a dream demon of a sort like Bill Cipher, and that's where this picture came from, it was markmak's concept/take on the idea.
Then "The Stanchurian Candidate" came around and Tad Strange was just an ironic name applied to a boring human who likes bread. He was just a visual gag this whole time.
