its actually done on purpose. alex hirsch, aka the creator of the show(slash-excecutive producer/writer/voice of stan/soos/mcgucket/bill) based the twins on himself and his real life twin sister ariel from when they were younger. ariel wore goofy sweaters and he just wore the same thing.Β
