Well he does technically eat in canon. He drinks the ketchup, he goes to Grillby's a lot and has a tab so he clearly orders things and eats them, plus there's Papyrus' spaghetti (you KNOW he'd eat it just to make his big bro happy!) and the quiches and also the potato chips in the skelebro's fridge.
