That's a great observation/feeling...When I saw Totoro for the 1st time it was wondrous...and a bit creepy in a curious way. You just didn't know what was going to happen. Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are the same way...more that the others.

Yeah, I really felt that way about Monoke Hime. The little bobble-headed forest spirits gave me the willies...
Spirited Away had this cutesy feel to it, which kind of set you at a false sense of calm, and then out of no where for brief moments it would blindside you with something disturbing or bizarre.
I really found Nausicaa to have that sort of quality in a sadder form too.
