The video is up, watch it right here! [ BLOOP HERE'S THE L I N K ] [Contains some strong language] | Starring Jannick as edge the hedgeGosh darn multiplayer modes in Sonic, why are they so much fun? This drawing was originally a standalone thing, but I thought it would work well for a video thumbnail!
I tried to sort of mimic the the Adventure 2 shading style with this, but couldn't spend too much time on the details because of time constraints.
I still like the result though, it's been a while since I last drawing everyone's favorite 'edgehog! Enjoy the video

Now, this brings back memories. Saturday nights, playing the story mode and several rounds of the multiplayer with my brother. He'd always play as Metal Sonic since he had the better speed, which is why I would pick the boarding level where player speed was on an equal playing field.
But, to the art!
The contrast, the use of bold outlines on Sonic and Shadow works really well against the soft edge shapes that make up the background. Along with that, the soft and stuble shading works really well both in the foreground and background. This is especially true for Sonic since the shading really rounds him out. Also, the mimic of SA2's shading style works well here and isn’t jarring when put next to the soft shading elsewhere.
The line art here is great, flowing and loose so the action of the situation comes off appropriately to the viewer.

Ah that's so cool! Glad you have great memories of the multiplayer too, it's just so much darn fun so I'm really happy I got to make a video about it and draw this thumbnail
