Description
This was a somewhat laborious undertaking, slowed further by exploding creepers and getting a job halfway through the project. Anyway, I'm pretty pleased with the end result and I've just started building a home in his hollowed-out innards. I was playing on normal throughout construction and didn't cheat or nuthin'.See My Minecraft Sphinx Build for some pictures of the construction.

Step 1: Built head and shoulders out of dirt next to base in the middle of the desert.
Step 2: Dug out sand and rock to create sphinx body and surrounding valley.
Step 3: Created steps round edge of valley replacing top layer with sand.
Step 4: Dug out and replaced floor of valley with sand. (Beds were added to the game at this point, making everything a lot quicker!)
Step5: Replaced entire surface of sphinx with sandstone.
Step 6: Hollowed out inside of sphinx to create a large cave-like, sphinx-shaped house.

ok i go on a server called massivecraft and if you go north from spawn there is that exact build in the desert and it has a giant temple under it.

There's not much in there at the moment; just a big empty space and chests full of the stuff I dug out making him. I'm thinking maybe a pool...

Apart from that I mostly just made it up as I went, except for the face, which I mapped out on squared paper first.

Thank you. It's quite authentic in that the shape of the back legs is pretty suspect... But, yeah, I decided to put a nose on there.
