Ch3: Les Fleurs Du Mal

It was around midnight when the group arrived in Paris. Naturally tired, they found a hotel for the night as they plan out their next move. If anywhere would be a place to start it would be the Bibliotheque National in 13th arrondissement. The Following morning, they head to the Bibliotheque National only to find out that it will require papers for non-French citizens to enter. Only allowing Orson (Jaune) to enter unimpeded. Annoyed Weiss asked if there is anyway to gain this paperwork to which [Anomalous Host] told her to roll for her credit. She passes normally and [Anomalous Host] told her that what should take five days is now moved down to three.

Annoyed as this will cut things close since the experience onboard the train, Celeste (Pyrrha) Suggested that they spend the day’s enjoying Paris. Everyone agreed to the idea excluding Olson (Jaune), who was basically stuck doing homework. Day’s go by and Jaune rolled Olson’s Library check. Failing all three days, he found nothing and was sorely exhausted. Meanwhile the rest were treated to three day’s of beautiful architecture, fine wining, and ice skating. Feeling bad, Celeste (Pyrrha) asked for Olson (Jaune) to dance on the third night. Seeing that neither one had dance skills, [Anomalous Host] asked the two to pass a Dex check. Only Olson (Jaune) does and was given a free pass on the check but also a 1d10 to Art/Crafts: Dancing skills.

The fourth day, Florence (Weiss) was allowed into the Bibliotheque National. Now with two people working things should go a bit more smoothly. Olson (Jaune) failed his but Florence (Weiss) passed a hard. They had uncovered a serious of diary entries, log books, and a personal medical note from multiple people. Detailing the events that transpired in 1789. Apparently the Sedefkar Simulacrum once belonged to an Austrian count by the name of Commet Finalic. He was shortly arrested but was spared by the queen being sent to The Charenton Asylum. They were unable to find any death reports or anything about the location of Commet’s estate so they called the Charenton Asylum requesting a visit. With Baxter (Ren) and Celeste (Pyrrha) connection’s they easily obtained a way in. Though the next morning over breakfast they read in the newspaper that Dr. Delplace, the man they talked over phone had died last night.

Making their way to the Charenton Asylum; Baxter (Ren), Matilda (Ruby), Celeste (Pyrrha) used their occupations to secure a conversation with the new head of the Asylum, Dr. Leroux. Florence (Weiss) rolled for a hard but only got a normal check. As the rest sat outside, they interview Dr. Leroux about the incident. He explains that Dr. Delplace died from faulty electricity when trying to help a new patient. He refused to go any further till Baxter (Ren) noticed a few log entries written by Dr. Delplace. Matilda (Ruby) rolled for a persuasive argument, as a distraction while Baxter (Ren) swiped the book. Once out the group reconvene at a nearby café.

Reading through the material, they found that Dr. Delplace was working on a patient found in the basement of the Chareton. Despite his extreme deterioration he seems to be for lack of a better word alive. When he applied for shock therapy, he detailed something about a mansion burning, and a statue in the basement that sounded eerily familiar to the Sedefkar Simulacrum in Poissy. Without any more leads they checked out of the hotel and booked a bus ride to the small town. It was around 8 when they arrive and the sky had darkened, and a strange fog had settled over the town. Finding lodging for the night they slept soundly. Except for Camilla Nora. She couldn’t help but feel as if she was being watched.

Around 4 in the morning she awoke to find a ghastly figure overhanging her bed. The sight of such a thing made her panic. [Anomalous Host] calls for a Sanity check. Passing she only loose one point. It hushes in words before disappearing in the sunlight.

The next morning Camilla (Nora) didn’t tell what she saw out of fear. Going to the town hall they searched the records for Commet Finalic. Florence (Weiss) passes and found that the house was destroyed and the land remained unoccupied for nearly two centuries. Belonging the Loriens family. Heading out they found there home on the outskirts of town. Remains of a wall can be seen but horrifically, rose vines had stretched around the walls. In the spring no doubt they would be beautiful, but without the rose buds it looked like living barbwire had strangled the old bricks into a nightmarish form.

Approaching the house they came upon Dr. Christian Loriens and his 3 year old daughter Quitterie. They were weary when eight strangers arrived. However Olson (Jaune) and Dolores (Yang) rolled charm to bust out their friendly nature. After talking for thirty minutes and Matilda (Ruby) and Florence (Weiss) helping little Quitterie make a snowman they were all invited in for coffee. While warming themselves Florence (Weiss) brought up the subject about why they were here and upon hearing mention of the Sedefkar Simulacrum raced up to grab a letter. As he retrieves it, Quitterie climbs onto Florence (Weiss) lap and begins playing with her hair. Dolores (Yang) Moves aside to play with her.

As they play with the baby, Dr. Christian returns with the letter handing it to Melissa (Blake). Looking it over she finds the mention of a scroll in possession of a man from Lausanne Switzerland. Florence (Weiss) points out that it’s on the way to their next destination. As she does, Dr. Christian carries more Coffee to Yang only for his right arm to stutter. He drops the coffee onto Dolores (Yang) and Quitterie. The coffee itself wasn’t hot enough to scold, or burn for that matter but when it landed on Quitterie arm she let’s out a horrific scream as her right arm blistered and burned. Acting quickly Dr. Christian raced to get medical aid. Celeste (Pyrrha) Rolled a medicine check, wasting some of her luck to assist Christian. The coffee had burned her as if it were an allergic reaction. Dr. Christian explains that his family has been suffering from strange ailments these past few months. Strangely only in the right hand.

After treating the injury, Dr. Christian offered to house the four before looking for this supposed hidden basement. Agreeing, Melissa (Blake) Celeste (Pyrrha) Matilda (Ruby) and Florence (Weiss) stayed at the house while Orson (Jaune), Camilla (Nora), Dolores (Yang) and Baxter (Ren) returns to the hotel. As an RP Session, Orson (Jaune) flirting with Dolores (Yang) to which she flirts back in a goofy manner. Baxter (Ren) decides to read a book on Italy since it’s coming up soon. Meanwhile at the house the other four were treated to a nice meal by the family before sleeping downstairs. As they do around 1 they hear screams from upstairs. Rushing up Quitterie blabbered something about the Boogie man in her window. After putting her back to bed the group woke up early in search of the hidden basement.

[Anomalous Host] calls for a hard Navigate. Only Pyrrha passed of the four with a hard success. [Anomalous Host] detailed how after breakfast the four quickly looked around before Celeste (Pyrrha) found the location of the tunnel, buried under a few inches of snow and dirt. With the help of a few shovel’s borrowed from Loriens shed. The other four had arrived as Celeste (Pyrrha) and Matilda (Ruby) dug up a hidden door. The old wood was locked in place by rot and earth. Only way to get in was to break it down. When [Anomalous Host] mentioned this part, Yang grabbed the dice rolled for a Hard STR. Passing with ease Dolores breaks down the door to reveal a humid and narrow stair case leading into a dark cave.

Retrieving flashlights from within the eight slowly made there way down the old dusty cobblestone floor. As they reached the bottom, they find a horrific sight. Bones dozen’s nearly reaching the hundred. Each one tied to horrific contraptions of torture or left in mutilated possess. What was truly horrifying was the wall of roses at the end, entangled in the wall of thorns and dark roses was several skeltons; two most prominent of the them were dressed in a raggedy wedding gown and groom clothes. [Anomalous Host] calls for a sanity check.

Only Celeste (Pyrrha) Failed and rolled a single point of sanity loss. The only one more disturbed was Dr. Christian who had picked the land that the house was built upon. Unaware of the horror that he had built his home upon. As Baxter (Ren) consolidated him, Celeste (Pyrrha) notices a single arm at the center that seemed to glow. Walking over she noticed right away that the arm wasn’t bone but made from some unknown stone. Being careful not to prick themselves on the rose thorns Celeste (Pyrrha) retrieved the right arm of Sedefkar Simulacrum. With the arm out of the garden of evil flowers, they rapidly begin to decay and wilted away.

They left the house for the midnight train. Christian while disturbed about the horror that laid beneath his home, seemed to move his right arm more freely, as if removing the arm did his some good. Florence (Weiss) asked if it was possible to get a refund for the trip as they will be making a pit stop in Lausanne Switzerland. [Anomalous Host] called for an Accounting check. Passing an Extreme [Anomalous Host] told Weiss that all money excluding the amount needed for the trip has been returned. However not all was well as a strange fog descended upon the train before disappearing entirely. Celeste (Pyrrha) was asked to make a hard STR roll. To which she failed. [Anomalous Host] detailed how her right arm gave out and felt numb.

Celeste (Pyrrha) asked to roll a Medicine check on herself. [Anomalous Host] oblige. Passing a normal Medicine check she was concerned to hear that her arm was fine. In fact feeling returned to it. Deciding that she needed rest heads to her room to sleep. Florence (Weiss), and Melissa (Blake) followed her wanting to sleep as well. [Anomalous Host] then asked the three to make a spot hidden check. All three failing, Blake spends little bit of luck to pass. [Anomalous Host] would detail seeing one of the conductors walking as if he was under hypnotic suggested towards the back. Going to see what’s wrong her awoke from his trace from a single touch.

With the other’s, they decided to get something to eat and drink. While there a famous Italian singer bords the train. Calling for INT check’s with Jaune gaining a bonus for his occupation, only Nora failed. They recognize her as Signorina Cavollaro, an Italian opera Singer who just finished her latest performance at the French Opera house. Jaune asked if it’s possible to talk with her and so does Ruby. Weiss feeling jealous that she missed out on seeing an Opera singer. [Anomalous Host] asked Ruby to pass a CR check while Jaune got a free pass. Matilda (Ruby) failed but Olson (Jaune) made it a point to introduce the two. Cavollaro was quite polite and paid for everyone’s meals and drinks before giving a private performance. The music itself was beautiful and one could not help but be entrance by it.

[Anomalous Host] then call for a listens check for Celeste (Pyrrha) Florence (Weiss), and Melissa (Blake). None passed and therefor didn’t hear the song. [Anomalous Host] then turns to the rest and asked them to make a POW check. Matilda (Ruby), Olson (Jaune), and Baxter (Ren) passed without trouble. Without telling what they passed [Anomalous Host] tells the group to return later. Only Ruby, Jaune, and Ren may return for a dream worth remembering.
