It was September 9th, 1998, when Insomaniac games release a classic Playstation platform game that not only follow the success of Naughty Dog's Crash Bandicoot, but also save the company from closing down, the story of a little dragon with attitude that's not afraid of facing big tough guys and flying into many adventures with his dragonfly partner, it is, the one and only...Spyro!
One of the Playstation's greatest characters that earn a place in the hearts of many players along with Crash, Sly Cooper, Ratchet, Clank, Jak and Daxter. Since it's first game successful release, sequels would follow, along with games coming outside of the Playstation and land on platforms made by Sony's competitors: Gameboy Advance, Gamecube, Wii, DS, XBOX and many more!
And while the franchise had is ups and downs, it is still a franchise worthy for everyone to look at it, especially the new generation. Not only video games, but also on comic books, merchandise and even appear on an animated adaptation of the spin-off revival Skylanders with Skylanders Academy, released exclusive on Netflix.
Not to mention several crossovers he made with other characters including Crash Bandicoot, which after these two franchises would have other games developed by other studios including Vicarious Visions and Toys for Bob.
And so, today, it is our favorite dragon's 25th anniversary since his first appearance, and we celebrate it showing how much we love the franchise, and hoping in the future more production from this continue, even after Activision's now owned by Microsoft (sort off...)
So, here's to you, Spyro, have a wonderful birthday, and make sure the BBQ stay hot, cause we can all smell it, right?
