This is just an update on an insignia I'm working with at the moment. I've been getting to grips with my new tablet and playing with textures to add blood stains and the likes. This is my second or third attempt at adding blood stains to metallic surfaces. I think I've just about got the hang of it, although it's not quite there yet. I hope eventually to work this design into a more complete piece with something to hint at the nature of the faction to whom this motif belongs. The model was worked up in 3ds max and then run through photoshop to sharpen it up a bit. I'm still playing with the lighting and texture coordinates etc.

Without giving too much away: they are a people still clinging to yesterday's world, struggling to come to terms with the reality of their situation - a reality they had the power to avoid. Yet nevertheless, they hope the day will come when they will be reborn and rise from the fire like the phoenix of myth, and so have adopted this image as their faction logo.
