I didn't how Gambit and Rogue were written in this series, I also didn't like this series at all. But others saying that they want Gambit with... Nora... Polaris... and Mystique... it's not surprising that there not explaining those pairings in anyway.
As for the so-called age difference... I've seen people get upset and make an issue between characters who are only two years apart... if Rogue was close to turning 18 in this series, then she was a year or a few months from becoming an adult.

Mystique hated Gambit's and Rogue's relationship so she tried to get Rogue to date this other guy. And to break them apart, she disguised herself as Rogue and slept with Gambit.

Gambit himself denies that he slept with Mystique when she changed into Rogue... right in front of him, so he knew who it really was... hell he resisted her charms when she was Foxx. So it seems very unlikely that Gambit would sleep with her just because she changed into Rogue...

I totally wanted to kiss the creators. They were hinting it from the beginning, too bad it never made it past season four. This ep was when Professor X saw Jean become Phoenix and Gambit joins the X-men. I strongly believe they were gonna make Gambit and Rogue a couple. Which is fine by me, they were always a couple to begin with. And for you people going, "Well if she was older." I take offense to that, my boyfriend is five years older than me. he's 24 and I am 19 we met when I was 17 1/2. It's perfectly fine to date someone older than you, however, I would see the point if he was like 30 years old and up and she was like 15. But, if I recall right in Evolution, he's 21? and she's almost 18. That's 3 1/2 years...ooooohhhh big deal. in the 1990 cartoons she was two to three years younger than him! (I think it was like 23 and 25/26, I don't remember)
