I think a lot of people liked the Batman/Wonder Woman thing that was happening.Β And the comics WERE starting to get there (just another example of DC taking cues from their animated universe) before the New 52 came along and screwed everything up.Β But I think everyone knows that what's going on right now isn't going to last.
Pretty well-drawn, by the way.^_^

Worst thing is that DC went as far as making Diana admit her feelings for Bruce (during "Blackest Night"; Diana even hinted that those feelings were mutual), but then... poof! No consequences, no follow-through, no epilogue, nothing, nada!
AAARGH! Β

TuxedAaron In reply to ragdollfun [2014-04-01 08:26:41 +0000 UTC]
Well, they didn't really have time to get into it.Β The New 52 hit pretty much right on the heels of Bruce coming back from that little time walk Darkseid sent him on and before that happened, the writers first had to set up Batman Incorporated so it could be brought on through.
Having said that, though, I think the Blackest Night also implied that whatever love they felt for each other was mutually understood and recognized, even if it may not have been spoken aloud or acted upon.Β Kind of like Starfire and Nightwing, for much of the latter part of their time together.
Speaking of which (and if you don't mind an utterly shameless plug on my part), you might want to check out my JLU fanfic, "Point of View", which features Batman and Wonder Woman teaming up with Nightwing and Starfire to take on...well, to tell you that would spoil the surprise.Β But I think you'd like it for the most part.Β I also think I came up with a very good explanation for why Bruce distances himself romantically...and not necessarily for the reasons he's claimed in the past.

I still think DC should have taken the time to wrap things up by making some sort of "epilogue" for the previous continuity before erasing it during Flashpoint. It was pretty disrespectful, in my opinion, towards their long-term fans.
P.S. I read it and loved it!
π: 0 β©: 1
TuxedAaron In reply to ragdollfun [2014-04-02 03:38:07 +0000 UTC]
Well, they did wrap up a few things.Β Just not everything.Β I happen to know that before Flashpoint happened, Beast Boy and Raven were well on their way to living happily ever after.
Of course, respect for long-term fans never seems to be a priority in comics, I find.Β If it were, Peter Parker and Mary Jane would still be married...and we wouldn't have this whole Doc Ock nonsense going on right now.Β Mind you, according to Stan Lee, if a lot of old-school fans had their way, Peter would have never gotten married in the first place...or even graduated high school, for that matter.
And then there are some things that didn't change.Β The Green Lantern part of the DCU pretty much stayed intact in the wake of the New 52.Β Of course, that was because Geoff Johns was writing it and I think when the DC Execs were giving all the other writers a blank check to overhaul everything, I'm pretty sure Geoff said something along the lines of "F*BEEP!*ck that!Β I just poured five years of my life into Green Lantern!Β Nobody's changin' SH*BEEP!*T while I'M here!"Β And because Geoff is writing like, HALF of DC's books right now, the Execs just wrung their hands and went, "Yeah sure, okay."
Cool.Β Glad to hear you enjoyed it so much.^_^

I'm really not a fan of Stan Lee's work. He's good at drawing, but when it comes to writing plots and characters he's average at best, in my opinion. I tend to not listen to what he says, because sometimes I just can't tell who's the craziest between him and Miller. But, yeah, Spider-Man is probably the character (or one of) that got rebooted/revamped the most times.
Neither Green Lantern nor Batman actually got a true reboot. And Geoff Johns is part of the DC Execs right now, no? So it's not a surprise that he got the last word about Green Lantern. Also, I seem to recall that he and Didio were the ones who insisted on doing this SM/WW crap. I hate that Johns has been given so many books to write, his Justice League run is simply mediocre (and I'm not saying this because of his obsession for SMWW).

TuxedAaron In reply to ragdollfun [2014-04-04 12:36:57 +0000 UTC]
Well, Stan Lee's also in his 90s now, so...
As for the comics, I haven't really stayed current since Johns left Green Lantern (I did like how he ended it, though).Β As for his work on Justice League, again, I'm not current with it, but I thought his take on the Metal Men in Issue #28 was pretty good.
In other news, though, if you'd like to back away from the whole SM/WW business with some classic stuff, (and if you don't mind an utterly shameless plug on my part), you might want to check out my JLU fanfic, "Point of View", which features Batman and Wonder Woman teaming up with Nightwing and Starfire to take on...well, to tell you that would spoil the surprise.Β But I think you'd like it for the most part.Β I also think I came up with a pretty good explanation for why Bruce distances himself romantically...and not necessarily for the reasons he's claimed in the past.

Well if nothing else I actually got a friend of mine who made a very good BM/WW fic of her own where their relationship goes back all the way to High School.
Hunter's Moon and Hunter's Night are the names and they're part of a trilogy that she's working on. Fanfiction.net is where you can find them.

Yeah, all my stuff is on ff.net, too.Β Actually, I'm thinking about a JLU story that takes place in the Batman Beyond timeline.Β It's called "R.I.P." and it revolves around Terry dealing with the ultimate death of Bruce Wayne by getting input from those who knew him best.Β Among them is a surprise visit from Wonder Woman, who reveals that she and Bruce were actually involved for several years before she was called back to Themyscira (this was around the time Bruce was getting older and began pushing her away).

No problem.Β And thank you for the compliment.Β Again, it's like I said, this whole Superman/Wonder Woman thing going on right now isn't going to last.Β I think Geoff Johns made it pretty clear, right out of the gate, that they're just using each other and they know it.Β And it's all basically going to implode the instant one of them decides they want something more than just a super-powered booty call.Β And when that happens, who knows?Β She might gravitate back to Batman after that.
In the meantime, if you'd like some classic stuff, (and if you don't mind an utterly shameless plug on my part), you might want to check out my JLU fanfic, "Point of View", which features Batman and Wonder Woman teaming up with Nightwing and Starfire to take on...well, to tell you that would spoil the surprise.Β But I think you'd like it for the most part.Β I also think I came up with a pretty good explanation for why Bruce distances himself romantically...and not necessarily for the reasons he's claimed in the past.

You know what, that's even worse. Β They've made a huge song and dance about the breakup of Superman and Lois Lane so that they can do a relationship between Superman and Wonder Woman, but now you're saying Geoff Johns isn't even going to make the writers commit to it and make it meaningful. Β That's not only unfair to the Batman/Wonder Woman fans who felt they've been screwed out of something, but also means they've been stringing along the Superman/Wonder Woman fans for the sake of cheap drama.
That's bullshit.
π: 0 β©: 1
TuxedAaron In reply to AutoBot-Refuge [2014-04-02 03:48:23 +0000 UTC]
Well, in the New 52, it's not that Superman and Lois broke up.Β It's more that they haven't gotten together yet.Β Basically, when the New 52 happened, DC reset the clock, so everyone's JUST getting established and JUST getting to know each other.Β So who knows what's going to happen down the line?
Also, I can't claim to have any unique insights into Geoff Johns' state of mind or creative intentions.Β It's just, the way he set up them getting together in the first place, the clear implication was that it was really only happening because they were PHYSICALLY compatible.Β But like I say, eventually, it's only going to be a matter of time before a super-powered booty call isn't going to be enough for one (or both) of them and they're going to be looking for something more.
That's just my thinking on it.Β Read into it what you will.

AutoBot-Refuge In reply to TuxedAaron [2014-04-02 05:34:45 +0000 UTC]
Well fair enough, but it seems like an awful lot of bother what with the web announcements and all the other crap they went through to communicate this idea for it to be a short term 'friends with benefits' arrangement.
It seems a dishonest representation of both of them; and even as someone who despised the move with the power of a thousand suns, a good writing team could have made something beautiful and meaningful out of it.
Oh well, such is life I guess.
