For most of Moroi's journey, the command center is a surprising oasis of calm amid a vessel in constant turmoil. As departments and stations work through their tasks with every shift and undertaking extensive exercises to bring the crew together, only a steady stream of reports reaches the highest instance of command. For hours, the helm is almost entirely silent, leaving the operators to admire the view through their screens.
When the command center is called to action, however, it becomes the most cramped and chaotic deck of all. Those dreaded hours during major maneuvers, contacts, and rendezvous maneuvers mark the ebb and flow of boredom and action in every sailor's life.
