The successful colonization and co-habitation of alien planets along the Known Frontier has led to an unparalleled exodus from Earth within the holdings of the Alliance of Pan-Europa. Populations, commercial sectors, and industrial capacities have rapidly expanded into the new colonial territories, creating new hubs of trade and production. While it presents a great opportunity, the rapid growth also poses risks of instability, loss of political control, and even a complete fracture of the delicate network that is the Pan-European Alliance.
In response, the nations of the alliance have initiated a large number of specialized programs to recruit colonists for service in the military, earth-based education programs, cultural outreach, and trade initiatives. Behind all these lies a concerted effort to build and maintain strong ties between the fledgling colonies and the Alliance’s heartlands on Earth. The success or failure of the transition from a major planetary to an interplanetary- and even interstellar-power will only become apparent over the course of history. For the time being, however, the Alliance appears stronger than ever, flourishing on many worlds of the Serpent Chain.
