The Planetary Assault Ship (PAS)//(DRLP) is the most important offensive fleet asset of the United Citizen Federation, delivering the bulk of its armed forces to frontlines.
Fielding a sizable fleet of dropships and support craft, as well as a fighter/bomber wing for areal support, a single planetary assault ship can sustain a prolonged military campaign on the ground. Different variants of the class specialize in troop capacity, aerospace support, logistics, and intelligence, making the class one of the most versatile in the entire fleet. All variants are armed with light kinetic weapons to fend off potential dangers in the deployment zone, but the PAS is decidedly not designed for conventional ship-to-ship engagements.

The PAS rose to prominence in the public eye during the Klendathu Campaign, which first saw the class deployed in massed formations for a full planetary-scale assault. In anticipation of a swift victory, the planetary assault ships were staged as symbols of Terran martial prowess and featured heavily in news broadcasts and recruitment campaigns.
After suffering massive losses against unexpectedly resolute planetary defense systems, the fleet doctrine of the UCF was changed and PAS-class vessels were to be deployed in much smaller, highly mobile units for rapid troop insertion. This shift in tactics was successful in increasing the survivability of PAS vessels drastically. Nevertheless, the PAS class now associated with the UCF's greatest military blunder of the war was quickly dropped from public broadcast and replaced by different types, losing much of its initial prestige.
