I use references a TON! I'm not copying or stealing. I'm just looking at something so I can draw something else.

Exactly that! But some people can't understand it's a part of learning and making the picture look good, how the hell are artists supposed to create something without knowing the details of it? It's like, don't use a cookbook for cooking a new kind of cake, it's someone else's work

Yup definately there's nothing wrong with using references to draw , everyone uses them at some point early on in their paintings.
