Description
For the love of god, DOWNLOAD.This. Oh. My. God. THIS. Has been SO LONG in coming. This is my ultimate brainbaby, the Ulatiem. They are a race of Arctic, wyvern-like dragons and I love them to death. They came into being about...a year ago? Yeah. Me and were starting to write a fanfiction for the Dragonlord series by Joanne Bertin (which you should totally check out) and we made up our own species of truedragon. Actually we made up two, but the Fae are cali's and I had nothing to do with their creation.
In any case, our work on Circles ground to a halt but I still write with the Ula. So now that I've yanked them officially from the Dragonlord universe, they deserved their own reference sheet.
Thankyouthankyouthankyou for the amazing anatomy sketch and all your support. You are awesome and win.
And dude, if you ask to create an Ulatiem of your own, I will be the happiest little Mary you've ever met. Seriously.

Ok, I'm keeping my promise and making a Ula character 83 BUT, I have a question; Are the forelegs the arms of the wings or are they separate? ;

MarySeif In reply to xDarkwingx [2009-10-26 21:20:35 +0000 UTC]
The forelegs are part of the wings. Sorry if the sketch is a little hard to discern XD
Think of them as big fluffy wyverns!

by the way,in my country, some people believe they are still alive...we have some places like Foja Mountain and Komodo Island..and some of indonesian people believe that the Dragons live on there..

That is so cool No one in the states believes in anything they haven't seen with their own eyes. I'd love to live somewhere where the lore of the legion is alive and thriving in the people that lived there.

I actually quite like this species ;o; But I can't draw dragons to save my life. If I get better at them, I will totally make my own Ula! xD It's a very nice species!

oh dude ... I just got a book on birds of prey, and it has the most brilliant analysis of which wings & tails are used for which different functions. Silhoettes for every example ... descriptions of the habitat, types of prey, etc for each wing/tail type ... it's AMAZING :0 /random>

I KNOW I didn't even look inside it when I bought it, it was like $1 at a market and I was just all "pretty hawk", but yeah.
I think I might do me some scanning sometime :>

Ithildae [2009-07-01 22:32:10 +0000 UTC]
Hah, this IS epic. Awesome. I love the bit about the underbite. And the horns are sweeet. And wyverns are the BEST ... dragons always make me twitch because the wing placement ends up so random, like plunked on the back of a quadruped; how do they even fly? So yes.
I take it when you say pupil-less that the pupils are there but hidden, y/y? XD
I'm curious about the male/female sizes - I would have expected the females to be larger (or the same size) because I think of dragons/wyverns as having a female watching over and defending her clutch ... how does it work with the babies? Are they eggs or live birth? Live birth would give protection from cold ...
damn I love these 'science' type char creations, they're so fun to think about <3 I dunno about making one of my own but I sure do wanna do a portrait of one! :>

MarySeif In reply to Ithildae [2009-07-01 23:13:40 +0000 UTC]
Bah i really wish I'd worked through more of that before making the sheet. I wrote "clutch" out of habit. They are more mammal than reptile so they have live birth. They DO have pupils they are just not visible and females are generally smaller in the way that female lions are smaller but more agile and better hunters.
