Description The Trappist Monastery monk. In 1890, a monastery was established at Latrun by French monks of the Trappist order.
The monks keep a vow of silence, except for those who sell wine and olive oil to visitors. The name Latrun comes from a twelfth-century castle on this spot called La Tour de Chevaliers ("the knights tower"). Later travelers believed the name was connected to the Latin word latro (thief) and saw this site as the home of the "good thief" crucified next to Jesus (Luke 23:40-43).
Latrun, Ayalon Valley, Israel 2008'.

Special thanks for my friend Mircea

it; Brilliant piece of manipulation. The priest is crisp and sharp, the background is mellow and fading, and the halo effect adds drama. Very clever indeed

Thanks for the fav, BTW. This photo(s) of yours stood out for me. I think there's just something wholesome about it, and the effect is improved by having an older subject. Plus, I like how he's stepping out of the picture towards the viewer. Nice touch.

This really is an incredible piece! From the framing of the monk by the monastery behind him, to the halo created by the window around his welcoming face, to the little detail of him stepping out of the frame you created - it's all great! Very, very nicely done! This is definitely one of my most favorite favorites!

I love this my work too, it's photo manipylation from 2 photos, one it's monk and second it's church in monastery I only make manipulation with light and shadows... It's was interesting to do and I have inspiration in this time... Thanks you for warm words, and I really happy you like it!

I’m not one who is at all religious but I have to say this is a great shot. I like the framing and of course the light from behind the monk is, well, inspired.
Thank you for the historical data I love that sort of thing. Every picture tells a story but too many go untold.

Thank you very very much for kind words! It's photomanipulation- I make this work from two my photos. One from them - monk's portrait, and second is a church interior.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JAHarrell In reply to maska13 [2008-11-22 13:00:28 +0000 UTC]

I figured that was the case but the way that the monk is placed within the frame gives him an otherworldly appearance that adds to the effect. A great job!

One minor flaw in your work (remarkable, anyway). I would've framed it after placing the monk inside the church. That should attenuate the difference of depth of field of the objects in your manipulation. The monk's foot stepping out of frame cancel your efforts to create a realistic effect.

I would suggest to try and fix the discontinuation of the white frame covering the toes of the monk by use of the clone tool.
