Description Built in Google Sketchup 7-8, still possibly a work in progress, I can never decide when something's finished

Inspired of course by Battlestar Galactica, but not based on or built from any ship in particular.

Still needs more details in some parts and it doesn't have enough distinctive elements of a battlestar.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the input, good to hear from a pro
I'm planning on doing the details, just hope I don't go overboard on them. Which elements did I miss?

Your work is excellent, hope you don't mind if I ask a few questions. You use Sketchup for all the model bases- is that the free Sketchup or Sketchup Pro? And I love the renders on your ships and cars in particular, what program do you use? Alas, I went straight from Sketchup, probably not the best choice.

You're welcome, and thanks
Well...I was mostly thinking about the launching bay pods, while I know they're not strictly essential on all battlestar ships, they do make up a big part of the look and feel of such ships. Without them the ship looks somewhat reminiscent of the Ancient design from Stargate.

I use the free version 7 of Sketchup, I don't really need the Pro, it doesn't add much more useful functionality, for me. I have plenty of plugins that are mostly free and much more useful. I did try out a few renderers, the old ones are with V-ray, the others were made with Hypershot and Simlab Composer(they have the same render engine), and Simlab I bought, because it's way cheaper and pretty easy to use.

There's nothing wrong with straight SU renders, they can look pretty awesome in they're own way if done right...I don't have much to say in that department because before I started to render I didn't much bothered with anything other that the model itself.

I do recommend signing up to the Sketchucation forums in case you don't know of it. It's for help, tips, ideas, suggestions and questions. You'll find many plug-ins there too plus information on others.

I included the pods (about three quarters of the way back, parallel with the curved section there), but they aren't that noticeable- I wanted to make a ship much bigger than the Galactica, but thought it would be a little pointless to upscale the pods too. Maybe change it to a quadrupod design, two fore, two aft?

Thanks very much!

It couldn't hurt to try that configuration and maybe if you try a different style in SU some more details will become visible.
