You can find the rulebook at the Games Workshop articles section and you can download it fore free.

I recommend trying th game, it's is one of the best GW games, IMO. You can use proxy models at first and if do get the spark for the game you can convert your own models from existing plastic kits. This is a very good way for example to make a Tyranid Fleet or Ork Fleet.

I have always liked the look of imperial fleets so I think I would probably go with that. A proxy game is in order before hand of coarse. How many ships make up a typical fleet and how much would it run me you think?

All models can be bought only from mail-order or second-hand. The first choice is a exenpencive one, that's why I strongly recommend bying models second-hand or converting your own.

Your fleet can consist any number of different types of vessels. In normal 1000 point game Imperial and Chaos forces usually have 3-5 cruiser class ships and some amount of escort ships to fill the point allowance. Race's that have superior ships ofcourse have less ships like Eldar or Necron.

My Imperial Fleet of 1500 points has a battleship, 3 normal cruisers, 2 light cruisers and handfull of different escorts. My Chaos Fleet has the Repulsive cruiser shown, 3 normal cruisers and few escorts shown on a different pic on my gallery. I'm building a Dark Eldar Fleet of 3 Cruisers and 9 Escorts and I'm planning to by a Tau Fleet from Forgeworld (extremely costly)...
