You should definitely play it! Get the Game Cube version, the Wii version you have to swing the wiimote around to use the sword which is unnecessary pain and doesn't add to the game!

Game Cube is pretty cheap now so I'll definitely give it a think, I pretty much missed all of the GC Gen games, bar Smash Bro's & Wind Waker. Ocarina of Time was a fav too but I have WAY to much to play currently so might have to go on the backburner, lol.

Haha, that's a funny question to ask. Its all personal opinion isn't it? But back in the 90's I would've said Sonic, now with the demise of Sega as anything but a publisher Mario for sure, Nintendo have their own platform and more advertising after all, the new generation doesn't really know Sonic.
I would say its apples and oranges tbh though, Sonic is more of a character (they try to give him personality, he's had his own cartoons and he has a big fan following) and Mario is more of a means to an end, he's a symbol of Nintendo and a platform to create their games around. I think I read a quote of Miyamoto saying that in essence they make new IP's and new types of games all the time, the gameplay is different, its just that Mario is the platform and world which the game is made around, so, its a new game, but its still Mario.

I know the nes didn't take off there like it in the US. I'm not sure about the snes. Mario has always been more popular, but Sonic's base, while considerably small, is still fair strong, especially in-regards to the older 2D games.

I think so too! She's definitely one of my favorite character of all time and the best companion character in the Zelda series, even beating out ghost zelda in a suit of armor!
