Scarce is lightIn dead of night
Darkness wins
When sleep begins
Deep dark depths
Of rage and fire
Or freezing cold
In swampy mire
Traverse into
The land of dreams
Where reality is
Anything you deem
UFOs and aliens
Slimy crustaceans
Worms and snakes
Can make you wake
Sweating in
Your freezing sheets
Rapid are
Your heart's beats
Calmer now
It is just a nightmare
But what is that sound?
Get up if you dare
Rising into
Still night air
Ready to
Receive a scare
Listening for
The slightest sound
But there is
Nothing around
So you climb
Back into your bed
There is nothing
You should dread
Except for morning
You try to rest
For tomorrow morn
You take a math test!

I do love this poem. Loved it the first time I read it and still do. I like the surprise ending, and the scary lead up to the horrendous happening, the thing which inspired this poem and draws fear upon the heart of all mankind. LOL.
