actually one of the founders of my field of science looked at swan/goose like birds. he attached heart monitors to several birds. when their significant other whom they were bonded to got into a fight the bird that wasn't involved but who was bonded to them would have an increased heart rate. Even though they had no involvement with the fight beyond that their partner was a part of it. It's pretty amazing really But then if humans never existed birds would be in our place instead. They used to rule the world before us as dinosaurs after all

That's really impressive!
Such an interesting study; it shows that not only humans are emotionally involved in their life, and that also "non-speaking" animals can feel and express emotions.

The male swan (on the left hand side) fighted against all the other swans. He was protecting its female!
