I’d picture the Detroit series of weapons to be superior. Maybe not by much but can’t shake the feeling

You could for some of the Fallout weapons I guess. In comparison to a Thompson Machine Gun or a bottlecap-based weapon perhaps. But I don’t see them as being superior to a US Military-tier rifle of the Fallout universe. Or a laser pistol of Institute, Brotherhood of Steel, or Enclave-class weapons.

Being set in a Cold War era themed point in history, they wouldn’t be that far behind in tech but they also spent decades having to recycle all that material as well. And while there’s no doubt a grenade launcher and fat boy would win this fight, I’m picturing more standard arsenal for both combatants

Yeah but it’s a Alternate History Cold War themed universe, complete with Power Armor and raygun gothic-esqur tech. Meaning it’s not necessarily comparable to our regular IRL Cold War themed era in history. And both eras for both universe take place in the future (2030s for Detroit, and even the era right before Fallout’s WW3 was set during the 2060s/2070s).

In terms of standard arsenal, neither really carry much in the way of traditional weaponry. And their arsenal is dependent on different factors in how the player takes the story.

Connor would have a standard DPD police pistol, and possibly an FBI/DPD officer’s rifle and sniper rifle. Which is only something he gets under different paths but they are the most common weapons everyone in the game uses

Nick Valentine is far more tricky because he’s a companion character and you can technically give him anything even right when you are rescuing him. But Before you rescue him from the Triggermen, he has either a Pipe Pistol or a .44 Magnum. One or the other, I can’t remember exactly.

Nicks arsenal would be difficult to peg. Limit him to a long range and short range firearm, a weapon for CQC, and wait would any medkits in Fallout work on Syns?

They seem to work on the Synth Coursers.

Then both combatants are allowed one medical item in their arsenal as well for the fight

That’s fine.

Okay slight mistake he carries a Pipe Pistol when you first meet him.
