Description
As part of a modeling discussion I'm posting these snapshots of my custom Armored Core model in it's current state.Image has been photoshoped to improve definition, but it has increased the saturation of the paint and altered the colors drastically.
Yellow is a dull yellow (mustard)
Red is a deep red (blood)
Grey is middle grey (50%)
Everything is coated in a matte sealer
I had hoped to mix and match pieces from other kits over the coarse of a summer and make a kit as close to my AC: Nexus unit as possible. Hasn't quite happened that way yet...
I had hoped to use this in conjunction with other media to make a little fan story of some kind a la 'Busty Angels' but that too, remains to be seen.

are those parts from the variable infinity series by Kotobukia? My brother was working on a few of those before he passed. and i still haven't gotten around to finishing the assembly. love the paint scheme BTW.

It's been remarked by long time players of the series that the Xbox live AC community is less skilled when stacked against the PS3 community. but i think it stands to reason, PS3 has all the Japanese players. and the Xbox version got all the twink weapons. but thats just what i've heard. i havent been able to verify anything at this point. but i am working on a few leads. anywho i first saw your work through Gaiaonline. and i decided to watch you here as a result.

I don't know about the console skill level, but if the PS3 version allows us to use the old control scheme, then I could see why.
But Crimson Elite plays on the XBOX with his other American tournament champ friends.
I was just happy to have Co-op added, but it has such a cult following with such snarky players who seem more interested in ousting each other in the arena. SO I haven't done as much with it as I would have liked, even though I was so happy that it fixed so much from AC4.
On Gaia you say?

ya pretty much same user name there as here. the thing about the controls on the ps3 is after you get the hang of the weapon switching and such, its actually pretty intuitive. the thing about the 360 version is they got access to weapons that tipped the scale. it doesnt take much for those weapons to waste a vet even in the hands of a novice. but thats the 360 community, its not their fault.

I've played AC since the first game, so I always prefered the precision of the old control scheme, though admittedly it was part of what gave AC such a steep learning curve.
But when they moved to mimic a more FPS style dual stick control scheme, I knew it wasn't going to work so well without some major compensators to correct for to high speeds and the deep 3-dimensional movement. Which is what we got when we finally got to AC4.
It's interesting that you mention that weapons were balanced differently for the two consoles. However I also know that some weapons had been power modified since the games release. However I am not aware of all those particulars.
Though I'm not sure about making such a broad point about the community of XBOX players, as they have no control of those parameters. Though I would certainly like to know why those differences exist in the first place.

i think the new weapons were added to the game to give american players a "fighting chance" as it were. against the Japanese players. but over powered weapons just take the skill out of the game. i'm sure you agree.

A sound theory, but that depends on how often Japanese and American players actually combat each other. All I know is most all the American players I play with, avoid gaming with other gamers who are on asian or european servers due to the lag issues. But that has more to do with what I've seen than anything else.
And in all my gaming I have never once found that 'over powered' weapons took skill out of any game. If anything it just made the games more repetitious and lacking in variety on the part of beginner or griefer players. If anything, it then requires an increase in skill level or adaptation by opponent players to counter such equipment.
And not to split hairs, but I hear 'over powered' way too often for my tastes. In every game there's always one item that players complain about being too good or too powerful. Even if that weapon is only slightly better than another or has a simple counter method.
In the case of AC, do you remember how easy it was to just mow through the arena with a Tank class AC with an X Buster cannon or some other super powerful anti-AC weapon? In my opinion it made the arena matches a regular grind, especially back in the old days when you could control the arena map and take your opponent underground so they couldn't fly. But with these newer titles, with their AI upgrades and human opponents and put in story mode missions, those super tanks lost a lot if not all of their efficiency. The weapons don't change in those situations, just the targets, and that makes all the difference.

wow. i've never heard anyone explain it that way. this has been a hell of a conversation. I think i feel smarter. but you have brought to light some things i never thought about. i remember the old arena grind pretty good. I actually keep track of my in mission AC kills with marks on my AC's core.

Ah see I'd keep track of any legitimate PvP arena kills I'd get. The AI arena and Mission mode are all scripted so they don't really count as an individual acheivement ya know?
I just had a flashback of the new decal app system that Fromsoftware used for Chromehounds. Not my favorite without mouse support but it worked.

I'm getting pretty good at constructing emblems for friends. as for online kills i dont fight many other ravens online but i like to fight the japanese players they provide more of a challenge, then most american players i have faced.

I remember making custom pin-up emblems from scratch on the first games. BUt once they got to the PS2, it just wasn't practical anymore.
Now with the layer system, it's better, and we've seen this system adopted in other games as well. Though I wish there was a way to upload images from my computer to my game file and use those as emblems

that would be sweet. i have a few really choice images i would love to use. but i think the reason they havent added a feature like that is due in part to the fact that AC pilots, much like fighter pilots would be compelled to adorn their mechs with Questionable images. but i digress.

Heheh, I agree.
Of coarse we got away with that in the PS1 days, but not anymore with being online.

Oh certainly. The ones I put together on Chromehounds are quite nice.
The thing that makes the difference is the stock images available and the look of the different color swatches

Hehe, funny thing is, I had to use my copy of formula front to assemble the paint and plan the scheme for this. Had it in my pocket the whole time. XD

As best as I can set it up. I'm limited by the kit parts available.
As far as the rank goes, I can't redily recall that anymore.
I think the difference between the model kit unit and my Nexus AC build is the difference between an A and a C rank.

Again, looks great.
