Comic I did for SVA (School of Visual Arts). It's supposed to be published with an anthology of work, so that's why I didn't do a cover. They only asked for 1 to 3 pages, but decided to do 10
The story is about Gilgamesh, the first hero of recorded mythology (and also the name of a real, ancient Sumerian king), coping with the loss of his companion, Enkidu. The original epic concentrated on themes of necrophobia, anxiety over death, loss, and the worth of a legacy. I tried to give the comic similar themes. The comic's story concerns a slightly altered version of the very end of the epic, when Gilgamesh questions Utnapishtim (the original Noah) on how to become an immortal and avoid the bleak, innevitable afterlife in the underworld. In modern times, in a city somewhere in the middle-east, a man named Gregory tries to cope with the loss of his friend, and wonders what good his death has brought about.
I like the art in this comic more than my last, "LAST HERO", due mostly to the line-work, ink quality, and more advanced backgrounds, though I like HERO's humorous, and mostly original story (I say that because even HERO was based partially on the Norse hero, Siegfried/Sigurd).
