Description Spoilers maybe? Also title pun.

I'm not sure what happened to Shadow here. I think he's supposed to be holding a cup of coffee. But it didn't work. Then again, I hate Shadow in Sonic Boom soooo...also I really need to keep my fonts consistent.

I'm sure this one speaks for itself. I mean Infinite's backstory is still weakly told and weakly set up, but anyone who thinks its worse than Boom!Shadow's "motivation" in the Sonic Boom season 2 finale, eeeeeeeh I disagree.

Honestly the issues with Infinite come down more to Poes' Law than anything else. Infinite tries to be a deconstruction of ColdSteel and his ilk, but the near trademarked bad writing (or in Forces' case, a lack of presentation and explenation) just makes him come across as ColdSteel but Official. I do hope that SEGA finds a way to use this guy again without demoting him to Olympic Games rosters like they did with Silver and Zavok, 'cause I do like Infinite. He's got a good idea for a backstory but he ends up just being adorable. I want to hug him and pet him and teach him how to make proper coffee. He makes very weak coffee at the moment.

"WEAK?!"

Uh oh.

"I AM NOT WEAK RRRRRAAAAAAAAARGH!"

...Jeez Inny. Someone give this man a Snickers bar.

well at least i managed to find a use for that infinite picture i drew to celebrate the death of the archie comics heh

Personally I loved Forces and Infinite, although his backstory was kinda weak and silly, it was something, and I believe we'll see more of him and his backstory unfold in the future, hopefully with something tragic, heck, they can even make him the most tragic Sonic villain! I honestly believe that Sega intended for him to be edgy and knew he would get a few negative backlashes here and there, they know what the fans are like, it's just a kinda a way to poke fun at them, as well as the custom character creator.

But imagine this concept for the next game. The beginning cutscene shows Infinite after his defeat sitting in Eggman's lair, he takes off his mask and looks up to see one of his squad members smiling calmly at him, he quickly looks down and covers his eyes, only to look up and see the jackal gone. Infinite takes off his mask and looks at his hands, shaking. The camera then oversees Infinite burying his head in his hands and sobbing quietly, all but silently whispering to himself "I'm scared..".

No one is born evil, and people simply haven't been able to see the possible logic behind Infinite's breakdown.

Oh yeah, Shadow's "backstory" in Boom was a total letdown, should've stuck to the Adventure 2 origin or have him born as a normal edgy hedgy and not an omnicidal egoist.

Lost his squad and let greed overtake him? I don't remember any of that?

What's worse is that its contradictory to the main campaign which says that Eggman created Infinite, not that he was a hired assassin.

The Tie-In Comics show that Infinite had the so-called "Jackal Squad", that Shadow wiped straight out before the events of the game, around the time of Episode Shadow. Eggman gave Inny the Phantom Ruby so he could become his latest superweapon. The game doesn't tell you ANY of this, of course, because presentation-wise it was all slapped together by a bunch of chimps.

Yeah well it contradicts parts like at the beginning where Eggman calls Infinite his "newest creation" and Amy mentioning in the penultimate stage that this is where Infinite was "Created" and this being a lonely place to be born.

My guess is that Sega originally intended for him to be an artificial creation, but then at the last moment slapped on a backstory of him being a merc who got essentially bullied by Shadow as a half-assed attempt at making him look "tragic" when all it did was contradict itself and make him look more like a crybaby.

And what a miserable failure that was. Which kind of describes Forces in general. Outside of "Excuse to Pimp out Classic Sonic", of course.

Infinite is edgy, but not weak.

He's still an embarrassing excuse for a villain all the same.

Shadow was a petty idiot in the last episode of Season 2, and Infinite was a waste of a villain.

Come to think of it, when WAS the last time Sonic had a decent villain? I guess Gerald Robotnick in Adventure 2..or Mephiles if you're into So Bad It's Good Ham and Cheese villains.

I'd go with Gerald Robotnik.

Well then. While Adventure 2 hasn't really aged that well, at least that was a good bit of it. At least Gerald had some sort of motivation for what he did. Confusing concerns with the Black Arms aside, he created the Ultimate Lifeform as a cure for his niece's sickness. But then GUN turned against him. They killed Maria, destroyed his life's work and attempted to use Shadow as a weapon. In anger, he turned his back to the human race and ensured that, should Shadow every actually be used, he could get revenge on the wretched humans that ruined his life.

Compare that to Zavok which is more, "lol I am literally Bowser and I want to kill everyone because reasons".

I don't have that much literature, but I do write backstories for my ocs. Sweetiecup and Clocky are examples.

And I have my Cuphead fanfiction, also I'm working on a DHMIS fanfiction but it only has one chapter so far.
Saving Cagney from the ColdΒ  Β Β Β  Β  It was a week from Christmas, and almost everyone in Inkwell was inside their house to be warm during the snowstorm. But one resident of Inkwell was not warm or even in a house, Cagney Carnation. He didn't had anything to wear for the winter and worse for a plant than other creatures, so he's freezing to death. He looked around to find someone to help him, but when he tried to call for help, he coughed and mourned. After a while, Cagney fell unconscious.Β

Cuphead then looked at Cagney, than said, "Oh my gosh! We need to save him!" Then they dug him from the ground, and brought him home.Β

Preferred Shadow's motivation in Adventure 2

MasterPerryMartin In reply to XinShadowBringer [2017-11-19 18:16:13 +0000 UTC]

I agree. That was at least something. Though the motivation was more from Gerald than Shadow himself.

XinShadowBringer In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2017-11-19 18:30:18 +0000 UTC]

Right, he basically took Shadow's rage from Maria's death, and amplified it. And gave Shadow the tools needed for the plan to succeed. And Shadow in that manipulated Eggman, manipulating someone with a 300 IQ, to fool him into destroy Earth itself.

MasterPerryMartin In reply to XinShadowBringer [2017-11-19 19:39:23 +0000 UTC]

Well considering what Eggman's average plan is, that last point is not nearly as impressive as it sounds.

Indeed, Shadow just took advantage of his ambition.

Infinite isn't really shown to care about his squad, just that Shadow called him weak.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MasterPerryMartin In reply to ToaArcan [2017-11-19 03:37:27 +0000 UTC]

The sad thing is that this is all still more motivation than Zavok or Mephiles or even Eggman himself.

Though considering that the vast majority of villains in the franchise are near-eldritch creatures with no brains never mind personalities, that ain't saying much.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ToaArcan In reply to MasterPerryMartin [2017-11-19 03:57:04 +0000 UTC]

You may have a point with Eggman, almost, but the others have motivations, they just don't get whole lines of dialogue that are dedicated to spelling it out in minute detail.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MasterPerryMartin In reply to ToaArcan [2017-11-19 04:18:10 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't say Dark Gaia has motivation. Neither does Zavok outside of "lol I am literally Bowser". Even with Lyric at least he wanted to get back at the Ancients (and Sonic) for sealing him away.

So! With Infinite, how bad is he? Is he FINO?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

ValiantPhoenix [2017-11-16 06:08:40 +0000 UTC]

That's what happens when you take the joke cartoon seriously. Shadow isn't the character he was in previous titles, so expecting him to live up to their standards is stupid.Β At least Infinite's character was played seriously, which is more honest than involving Shadow except not really.

Sure, I agree that Infinite's backstory was executed poorly and I wish they'd given it more pages to develop, or at least more hints that Infinite really didn't care for the world at all. But he never seemed like a deconstruction to me, more like a villain who talked a big game and seemed powerful yet was downright pathetic, much like the game he's in. While I like him, I don't want him to become a staple of the series if they have no intention of doing anything more interesting than that with him.

Yeah, I hated Shadow in Boom too. Though at least he wasn't butchered nearly as badly as MetalSonic was (he got pwned by a freakin' Horseshoe! It would take a lot more than that to beat MetalSonic!)

Very true, there was also D-FEKT, who was merely just a big showoff of a robot, and most of the time ended up being Sticks' little plaything.

And Nominatus, an evil Computer Virus who wanted to kill all life because it was "so illogical," and he died just from Orbot and Cubot playing their braindead game of "Rock Donut Thursday." Phage from the comics was so much better of an evil Computer Virus.

And The Lightning Bolt Society, basically a bunch of villain wannabes, who just want to be evil for the sake of being evil, even though they are amatuers (at least Nominatus had a good reason behind his attacks).

I mean the comics aren't saints either. We have God-Mode Eggman, Amy-2 Thunderbolt, that moronic eagle Egg Boss, the Not-Breezie...but Boom has them worse used.
