So, I recently got to this part (again) when I was replaying it and realized that Kefka doesn't actually stab the emperor. Silly me! Oh well, I still like this. It seems more visceral this way somehow. In truth, Kefka has the statues zap him with some sort of lightning bolt and then he tosses Gestahl off the Floating Continent.

Amazing concept! I love your redesign of Gestahl, specially his crown. Gestahl fanart is so rare, and this is a marvelous scene to recreate in fanart!

Much appreciated. I wanted something to show Kefka and Gestahl as two forces meeting. Kefka has so much color and Gestahl is all black and white. I probably could have pushed the idea more into the abstract, but this turned out pretty well. Thanks for the look. It was a lot of fun to do.

Yes, I can see the symbolism behind the choice of colour, it's a stunning piece!

Kefka almost looks apologetic, as if the whole situation is an unfortunate task rather than the murderous takeover it really is. Indeed, Gestahl's expression is rather priceless.

Yeah, the original rough had the expression I was going for much more pat. More crazed really. I am not sure I read apologetic but I definitely agree that I don't read crazed. For me, even after all these years, when I play this game this is one of the moments that REALLY stands out. This is when the crazy character that almost seemed inept, such a lap dog really at this point, takes a major turn. Anyway, I do agree the expression on his face isn't all it could be. Thanks for the comment!

Most welcome, although The-Necromancer will admit that upon further study, Kefka's expression DOES bare a remarkable resemblance to the iconic "Troll Face" as well. That damned grin. It's a very good piece.
Final Fantasy VI will always, at least to The-Necromancer, be the best Final Fantasy. It has everything one could want from such a game, and that final battle with Kefka basically set the standard for final boss battles to come. Only pity, perhaps, is that you can cheat like a fiend to down him quickly.

Heh, thanks! I really wanted to convey that Gestahl didn't see it coming. A very, "What just happened?" moment for him. And really for me when I played this game for the first time. I remember when that happened I literally just sat there for a few minutes just staring at the screen. Appreciate you dropping by!
