With my pinky. I usually just rub my pinky over the lines I've drawn and push the lead the way I want it to shade.

Mkay, thats about how I started, too. Now I actually use the pencil to shade, but thats mostly about pressure on the pencil in varying degrees.

I've been trying to figure that out actually. Can't seem to control how hard I press with the pencil. lol
