Description
Generalfeldmarschall Erwin Rommel, known as the "Desert Fox" during the North Africa campaign of WWII.Known and widely respected for his tactical prowess and chivalry during the war, he was implicated in the July 20 plot to assassinate Hitler (although Rommel himself did not favor going so far as assassination) but, due to his good reputation, was given the choice to commit suicide rather than be tried and executed in disgrace. He chose the former option in order to protect his family and was buried with full military honors and a day of national mourning.
Rommel was surely a great leader, admired even by his enemies.
