By default attached to the spine, integrating with the host's nerve system, however it is capable of independently moving across the host's body if necessary. It can also provide partial deployment for offensive or defensive actions in cases where full armor activation is not possible.
The unit is sapient and refered to itself as CBO-1, Cybernetic Battle Organism 1st series. This was quickly turned into a name, the host now calling the unit Cobi.
From the outside perspective the unit looks nothing more than a very life like tattoo on the host's back though if touched, a minor alteration via nanites is done to the one coming in physical contact, tricking the person's brain, that instead of touching an alien alloy to feel the host's scaled skin.
