Description
Apparently, once every 18 months I feel the urge to draw a merfolk. Maybe it's my subconcious progress tracker...? LOL It sure beats the pants off of what I was doing a year and a half ago...I've always liked the long, elegant tails of merfolk. I even like the idea of black tails even more (heck it makes sense...). Unfortunately, niether are very common. In fact, I know of no other merfolk pictures with black tails. If you know of one, please show it to me! *big dewy eyes*
Done in colored pencil.

Well I can't remember of seeing any other merfolk with black tails neither o.O
But this one's looks great! And it contrasts with the merman's red hair and oh he is so beautiful *.*
I like the purple highlight on his fins... I don't know why, but it gives him a even more misterious look.

About the only pictures I've ever found are the ones that depict merfolk the monsters, versus the tamer, more humanized version of them.

No comments? How odd!
I can tell you spent a lot of time on this. The detail is good, and the coloring makes it appear very realistic.
The hand, however...the angle is kinda awkward, and one's hand can't be bend that way without the elbow being bent too. It's also a titch bit undersized.
Other than that, fabulous; the water background rocks too, really gives it an underwater feel.

LOL, now that I look at it, I wince at the anatomy faux pas fest that is this pic. As you said, the hand is WAY oversized, the arm position is physically impossible. If there is one thing that I still like about the pic, it's the coloring job. I'm still happy with how that came out, in spite of itself.
