well, make them look more alive? like give them shading, more detail. like I know you are trying to make him look sad, so you don't have to put light bubble in his eye, but well I don't know how to explain it, but take a look at your own eyeball, there's a black dot in the middle, then there's lines arround that black dot like how little kids draw the sun? and then give it different shading ^^
