Description Sabriel si one fresh d&d character I just finished. She is a ranger and also passed the rites of godhood and became a goddess of the wind. Pretty neat I'd say.

No worries, I can see how they can seem out of place from an outside of game perspective.

I agree. Is that a dog with her or a wolf? Frankly I prefer wolves, wild dogs are always smarter than house pets.

Its a wolf. I thought - at least personally - that it couldn't be mistaken with a dog. And with Sabriel being a ranger, having a wolf pet makes more sens than having a dog pet.

Yes, wolves are smarter since they are still wild animals. He or she is a nice looking thing too.

Its a she. And yes, wolfs are very smart and social animals. Pretty shy too since people tried to exterminate them at the end of the 18th century.

Lol, I guess that depends a lot of culture, tradition and environment. Go hungry enough and every animal becomes food. Be sated and every creature can become a companion.

I have yet to see a case of human killed and eaten by chickens. I still don't know if I would laugh or go out and shoot my chickens (preemptively). But you are right nonetheless, lots of people keep tigers, lions and cheetahs as pets.

Awww, you've just touched my She reminds me my WoW huntress, who I've played several years. She even had a wolf as companion , but his fur glittered with blue flashes... but I think, Sabriel is much more realistic
I like, that her cloths harmonize with the elven and hunter nature - rather lighter, quiet, specific colours. Beautiful!
There is only one thing, I would like to ask... if it's not too private - what does she have between her thighs?

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Eveqi [2012-02-18 23:17:39 +0000 UTC]

Lol, not what I usually get asked to say about a character but a valid question in this case. Its just a bit of padding. Usually clothing gets used in time and some get reinforced (to say so) when it gets too thin or too discolored. Its what I've done here. And I thought it would look good as per overall design too.
She is indeed kind of the generic ranger elf girl and wolf are fascinating animals so I'm not surprised of the coincidence, but still... What are the odds that somebody watching my gallery had a character similar to this?

Oh, now I understand, reinforcements Good to know, good to have You are indeed precise in details.
Sabriel only reminds me my huntress, she looks different as you can see here , but I've been always thinking of her rather like on your drawing - quick-witted, clever and tender woman. It is my subjective opinion, but this is how I see your Sabriel as well
No need to repeat - wonderful work!

Well, Warcraft elfs look different from the classical elfs. Especially in the ears area.

Eveqi In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2012-02-19 07:56:43 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely true. Their ears are twice longer, than it's usual, but they still visit the winter areas... choice most unwise, I would say Don't need to mention their white radiating eyes and usage of guns... heavy and loud
But if nothing else, they know, how to dance sexy

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Eveqi [2012-02-19 13:12:41 +0000 UTC]

Lol, gotta give it to them on that. And the burning eys are rather cool too, 'tho, logically, for night elfs dark eyes would have made more sens to me. More light absorbed, better vision at night.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Eveqi In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2012-02-19 18:29:36 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, correct. And black eyes would also look really dangerous Maybe they use these burning ones like flashlights se they can see in the dark pretty well
But it doesn't fit with their ratial trait "Shadowmeld" - hidding in shadows... unless they close eyes, when a monster is detected... not a good idea to me to be equiped by a bow and blindly wait for a creature to attack first from an arm-length distance... most probably the last idea
See? I've warned you not to allow me write comments

Oh, you have no idea how many really long debates I had over time on some forums about why dwarfs, elfs and other kind of creatures would look and act a certain way.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Eveqi In reply to MatesLaurentiu [2012-02-20 19:20:12 +0000 UTC]

I can imagine that
While I was playing Dragon Age II "What? A dwarf without a beard... and alive?" "Elfs are shorted than humans? Even with those ears?"
In WoW "What? A dwarf WOMAN without a beard... and alive?" "Since when gnomes are cute in RPG!?"
In Skyrim "These are handsome elfs? I should decrease my benchmark."
I think everyone has own image of every race... (mine is probably old RPG games like Baldur's Gate and classic literature like LOTR or Pratchett) and then it depends, how open-minded people are
The most funny thing on that is - everything about it is just imaginary No old corpses to compare, no chronicles,

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Eveqi [2012-02-20 19:44:08 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. I started by imagining the elfs by the nors standars - which is rather small and slim, sneaky and mischievous living somewhere in between the world of man and the spirit world. Tolkien came and brought the tall and fair ones. Then my elf world became just like the world of man, with elf being a lot of races of the same species: high elfs, wild elfs, dark elf, fairies, pixies and brownies. All elfs. Don't get me started on dwarfs and their beards.

It seems you had a lot of work studying all races and their variations... do you still like them?
Do you have to play the famous games to stay prepared for fans questioning?

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Eveqi [2012-02-20 20:55:24 +0000 UTC]

I don't have to but many times I do it just for the fun of it. And having a few years of mythology and occult studying as a base, it comes easy. Believe it or not, there are not that many creatures in games or movies that are not based on some mythological or religious creature. Sometime the name may vary but for a trained eye, the inspiration is most of the time visible.

From what I've read about it, many authors inspire even names of their main characters... this is what I don't fully understand... there is so many combinations of letters and they have to take them from ancestors
And here is one very dangerous and not yet discovered creature> [link]

One more question - I've seen some of your works on children books, right? I suppose you have to read the book first? Don't you feel like a fairy tale granny?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Eveqi [2012-02-21 00:13:28 +0000 UTC]

I grew up with stories and I have two nieces myself. When the first one was born I even started to write my own children's book (which unfortunately was abandoned but not forgotten). I also used to write short stories for years and have been a dungeon master (which involves making up a story) for years. I don't have to feel like a fairy tale granny mostly because, basically, I am one.

I gladly see, that you can make a fun of yourself. It's quite rare
Are you going to show your children's here? I would read it Why was it abadoned? Too bloody or insufficiently bloody? Have there been some special creatures you've invented?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Eveqi [2012-02-21 20:23:00 +0000 UTC]

I don't even know where it is anymore (beside still lingering in the drawers of my brain somewhere). And it wasn't bloody at all. It was about a little young fairy, called Pril who was kind of naughty and curious and gets lost in the woods. Thats pretty much where I got before abandoning it. As for the reasons...I don't really remember exactly but freelancer's life isn't always pink and as easy going as I can be sometime, I get caught by my own worries and realities.

Hmm, I feel pity for that. I know one woman, who invented whole world of fairies, imps, pixies and brownies. She made dozens of their sculptures, painted their picture, written books about them, their features, even fairy tales about them. She has low-made web pages, but just to show you [link] . And you know, what is the best about her? She really believes in them I've talked to her and she speaks about them as if they were real, live with her. In addition - she is not crazy
One of the story is about a brownie, who has lost or was kidnapped and two children are looking for him. At least someone on this world can make a happy end I sort of envy her... hope in justice and happyending is so beatiful

But she has also one pixie, whose name is too complicated to me to translate, something like awaytucker, who hides things in household, mostly keys or phone I always remember him, when I search for it I appologize for being such a bad companion tonight.

MatesLaurentiu In reply to Eveqi [2012-02-21 21:31:28 +0000 UTC]

No worries, no need to apologize. I think every household has one of those pixies. I used to think there are some mischievious dwarf in my house that took things and then put them back in the original place while I was looking for them. There are stories about gremlins and even today some people say there are gremlins in a place when things keep disappearing or getting broken. And there is a movie called "The Borrowers" about these type of pixies. So who knows...

God knows if you believe in him; it's a phrase, I'm half-misbeliever I would be happy to see them. I know, there is a lot of mysterious things in this world, but this would please me most
I come from a land full of mines, it's told, that whole the city is undermined. Even there were incidents of some cars to sink into a suddenly opened hole in the ground. Well, I do believe in existence of underground pixies... I don't fully understand why, but I feel them under the ground... silly Ok, I'm getting a little bit drunk of only one beer, but dark and 18°, but staying in control still, don't abuse it)

Universe is a wonderful, mysterious place. For each thing we get answer for, we get a million new questions. I'm a skeptic myself and I could be called an agnostic theist since I do believe in a higher existence but I do not think the religious believes represent it. As for what lies under our feet... who could say? We know so little that only our huge potential for arrogance make us grin in such satisfaction at our knowledge. Its like grasping at a grain of sand and shout out loud we hold the whole world in the palm of our hand.

No, it isn't. But I learned a long time ago that too much pride in ones work does blind one to one's mistakes and weak points. So I try to keep myself cool about what I do, take satisfaction and contentment in my work but not be too proud about it. There is always so much to learn and you can't learn it if pride sits upon the eyes like a blindfold.
