Description Watercolor, pen, gel pen

After 20+ hours, it's done at long last. I'm still not entirely pleased with it, but I can't figure out why. Any thoughts?

*looks at date in corner* Oops, this is what I get for not checking DA in forever. The detail in this is amazing! Especially the trees in the background. I can't stop staring~

Joy~! But the scanning really ruined the colors so I'm definitely resubmitting.

I quite like it the way it is. The balance of bright and dark works well and I find the details interesting.

The something bothering you could be color vibration.

Thank you! Now that I look at it more, I think it's that the colors were messed up from the scanning.

I can't tell you how often I've had problems with scanning too - usually having them wash out all but the strongest colors. In days gone by I had access to a very good, and reasonably priced, photography studio that I'd take my better pieces too a couple of times a year. One day I arrived with my portfolio only to discover the business had folded.

Nowadays I usually scan and adjust as best I can in photoshop elements or do my own photographs of the larger ones and keep my fingers crossed.

It's so much more satisfying just to draw and paint, isn't it?

It definitely is. Did you invest in a decent camera at all?

Hah! Yes, I got a junior version DSLR, tape the picture to a wall on a clear day, and use a stack of books for a tripod

Maybe that's worth looking into...could I ask where you found yours and for around how much?

Mine is getting old now - a Minolta 5X purchased in Portland, OR about five years ago. By the time I'd paid for the camera, the extra memory card, and the case I'd spent about $850. You should be able to do better than that these days. If you're not already a photographer I'd advise you to look for something similar. I have a friend who has a much fancier camera, but the pictures I get with mine are equally nice.

Good luck looking

You might check around and see if you can find something like mine second hand. People are always trading up and leaving cool stuff behind.

I would, but I'm a little leery of second hand electronic devices

While I wouldn't buy one privately (like ebay etc), reputable photography stores do offer warranties.
