I am very surprised to see a GWR loco at Bury?

She's not the only one either (the other being 7229)
Both are in an unrestored, Ex-Barry condition though.

Very interesting perspective! O.o Odd, seeing a locomotive all out alone in the "wilderness" like that...

It's a difficult business, I suppose, since they're so damn expensive, and really the only interest in them is as entertainment. Maybe when the oil runs out and they can't have diesel engines any more, there'll be a rush to restore them all We'll have to run them on wood like in Cuba Then, of course, people will be hugely nostalgic over the diesels...

Hi Matt,

Strange thing - but when I first viewed the photo in its smallest form it looked like an engine passing over a bridge. I never 'saw' the connecting rods as rods. Rather as the framework of a bridge.

So full marks for an interesting photo!

David

Not soon no.
She's owned by Andy Booth, owner of L&Y A Class No 1300 and he was going to start this when he had finished this.
Sadly, only a year after finishing 1300, her firebox was written of when she ran out of water on an overly heavy train.

At least I know "she's" actually owned by someone. That's good enough for me, I'd rather see it resteaming sooner than later, but if repairing the A-Class 1300 is the priority (and let face it, it's a heck of a lot easier to repair an already steaming loco), that's what most of the Enthusiasts are more interested in seeing.

Personally though I would still very much like to see this one returned to its former glory.

Woudln't we all.
Another motive could be that there's only one L&Y A Class left, whereas there are several 28xxs

Aren't the 28XX known by a more common name? I'm just getting into the GWR, so am still learning the classes.

It's not a Hall class is it?!? Then again I don't think so, can't really tell from the angle.

matt-durkan-railways In reply to Warhammer-Fanatic [2009-10-30 16:55:57 +0000 UTC]

No, the 28XXs are just 2-8-0 goods locos.
The GWR didn't give names to classes of non passenger locos.

Ah, yes, now I remember!

Thanks .

Still a lot to learn about GWR, so much a Southern Railway enthusiast at heart.
