Well, let's just say that he originated from a series of books by Elisabetta Dami and these books became so popular that here in Italy, he got not only a bunch of spin-off book series (some of which revolve around his sister Tea) and an animated series on Rai Gulp, but he also got the costumed character treatment (aka when a character is so popular that they become meetable in either parks or big events).

Internationally, on the other hand, he's not very well known. At least from what I've seen online, the only things the USA (and furries) know about him are his animated series and a series of comic books.
